Spin off from the sad story of a 67 bug thread.

Ah Chi has been doing welding for VWs for the past 20 years and he use to work for VW Chew in ipoh back in the days when Ah Chew use to weld and restore VWs. some have been in such a sorry state that other mechanics dont bother to attempt. he even does floor off restoration. i have seen his floor off work and hope to add some pics to this thread of the result obtained. however around 6 years ago Ah Chew had to move his store as the row of shops had to be re-located. Ah Chi had to move as well so he moved to a location far away but hardly had any customers. so, now he has moved to a small shack beside a Soy Sauce factory. he handles only a few cars at a time but he takes his time to get the work done right. just like most shade tree mechanics, he depends on the light of day to work and if it rains... well you know.. he does not just do weld work, he also handles collision repair. i hear he is the best when at pulling a VW back in shape (wish i knew of him when i wanted to do my VW up after the accident) however in the welding area, he is no novice to VWs. he knows VWs inside out that he can even remember where the holes for the running board bolts are located without the need of the running board itself.

what i like the most about Ah Chi is that he mentioned when he took my friend's car that it will take 1.5 to 2 months. and it has been 5 weeks and the car is almost completed. i give him credit for sticking to the schedule as most bodyshop guys overshoot their initial dateline.

for any info on how to contact Ah Chi, do pm me and if you need pictures of his work, kindy refer to the thread The story of a sad 67' VW...

regards, dev
